The Oaks at North Bethesda
Bethesda, MD
Description
A sound wall, adjacent to I-270, was required to minimize traffic noise for the new development of 24 luxury homes.
Challenge
Old fill soils and construction of an on-ramp to the highway limited accessibility creating challenges for the construction of the wall.
Solution
The wall consists of ashlar stone finish on the residential side and stained fuzzy rake finish on the highway side, all placed within precast concrete posts. The posts were bolted down onto bolt sets cast into the caisson foundations. The final wall met both the customer’s aesthetic needs for this upscale development as well as the construction schedule requirements to have the wall in place prior to selling homes. GeoStructures provided the sound wall on a design-build basis, meeting the local design requirements and enabling the fast-track project to meet a tight schedule.
