Underpinning
Construction is always more complex when there are adjacent structures because digging and even vibrations can affect their structural integrity. Using a design-build solution such as underpinning, GeoStructures has simultaneously supported existing foundations and lateral excavations so that nearby structures have remained stable during the construction process.
Often designed to increase load capacity or transfer foundation loads to lower depths, underpinning usually entails hand-dug pits that are filled with concrete directly beneath the footings. In cases where lateral support is required beyond the underpinning piers themselves, GeoStructures has used grouted anchors as a technically sound and economically sensible solution.

Underpinning is a useful technique when sub-foundation soils have weakened, the structure's use and load capacity have changed, or reinforcement is required because of nearby construction.
