Borings conducted by GeoConcepts Engineering encountered a wide range of conditions from loose sandy silt fills to very dense disintegrated rock. As a result, the bearing pressure provided by the unimproved soils ranged from 3,000 to 8,000 psf. Areas of the building founded on fill soils required up to 8 ft of excavation and replacement.
Geopier elements were used to support footing and mat loads of up to 2,200 kips, eliminate the cost and time associated with fill/loose soil excavation and replacement, and control total and differential settlements to acceptable levels. Over 2,300 Geopier elements, ranging in length from 8 to 18 ft, were constructed to support the six wings of the project. Geopier construction was completed ahead of schedule and within budget.
